The Montfort Research Chair on the Organization of Healthcare Services benefits from a grant of $50,000 per year for five years. Its goal is to answer the following research question: How can we improve collaboration to optimize healthcare services?

By answering this question through several research projects, the Chair aims to improve the organisation of healthcare services as well as to generate concrete benefits for managers, processionals, support staff, volunteers, patients and families.

The purpose of the Chair’s research program is to describe, understand and explain the impact of the interaction between individual and organizational factors, while also demonstrating the links between collaboration and innovation within healthcare services in Canada and, internationally.

  • Biography

    François Chiocchio is Professor of Organisational Behaviour and Human Resource Management at University of Ottawa’s Telfer School of Management. He is affiliated with the Institut du Savoir Montfort, a knowledge institute, where he holds the Montfort Research Chair in the Organization of Health Services. He received his PhD in psychology from Université de Montréal in Canada in 2002.

    His research focuses on projects, teamwork, and collaboration in various organizational environments, including health care organizations in Canada and Africa. He has published books titled Stress and Performance in Health Care Project Teams (PMI), Advancing Human Resource Project Management (Wiley) and The Psychology and Management of Project Teams (Oxford University Press).

    His research has appeared in peer-reviewed journals (e.g., BMC Health Services Research, International Journal of Project Management, Journal of Vocational Behavior, Small Group Research). Prof. Chiocchio collaborates very closely with graduate students as a research supervisor and HR Coach in various competitions.

    A measure and assessment specialist, he developed several instruments used for research or for personnel selection and competency development; work for which he was praised in Canada and in Quebec. He was awarded major funding from Tri-Council agencies and the Project Management Institute. He received the Telfer Excellence Award for his work in research, teaching and community service, and the Prize of the Ministry of Education for his use of participative technology in teaching.

    Prof. Chiocchio also has strong management experience that stems from managing his consulting firm and having worked in the Canadian federal public service as a project manager. He has served on editorial team of Project Management Journal, as Academic Leader of the Center for Executive Leadership’s Masters of Business in Complex Project Leadership ans as Administrator on the Board of Directors of Montfort Renaissance Inc. Prof. Chiocchio is one of the only academics specialized in industrial–organizational psychology certified as a Project Management Professional (PMP®) by the Project Management Institute, as a Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) by the Ordre des conseillers en ressources humaines agréés (Québec) and as a Certified Human Resource Leader (CHRL) by the Human Resources Professionals Association (Ontario).
