Research Chair in Physical and Mental Co-morbidities

Research Chair

in Physical and Mental Co-morbidities

The Research Chair in Physical and Mental Co-morbidity benefits from a grant of $50,000 per year, for five years. Its goal is to further the understanding in metabolic and behavioral disturbances in the individual with obstructive sleep apnea.

In addition to its key role in storing energy, adipose tissue is now recognized as a central player involved in various biological functions. The research program of the Chair aims to further our knowledge regarding the regulation of growth and secretory function of adipose tissue through an integrative approach covering the cellular and molecular levels up to the individual. The research focuses on the impact of external influences (eg exercise and nutritional interventions, hypoxia, pollutants, etc.) on adipose tissue metabolism. The research aims at a better understanding of the pathophysiology, the treatment and the prevention of obesity and related metabolic disorders.

  • Biography

In addition to be a key storage site of energy reserves, adipose tissue is now recognised as a crucial player involved in diverse biological functions. The long-term objective of Pascal Imbeault’s research team is to understand the regulation of growth and secretory function of adipose tissue using an integrative approach from the molecular and cell levels to humans. Associate professor at the School of Human Kinetics of the University of Ottawa, his research focuses on how environmental influences (ex. exercise and nutritional interventions, hypoxia, pollutants, etc.) impact adipose tissue metabolism. Overall, this work will provide further conceptual background in the effort of understanding the pathophysiology, treatment and prevention of obesity and its related disorders.
