Céline Aguer, PhD

Biography

Dr Aguer has a doctorate degree in chemical and biological health sciences from the University Montpellier 1 ( France ) and is currently an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Biochemistry, Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Ottawa.

Her research aims to identify myokines that might be involved in the etiology of type 2 diabetes and the positive effects of exercise for the treatment of this disease. The ultimate goal of this research is to better understand how exercise improves type 2 diabetes in order to implement rehabilitation programs to treat or prevent the development of this disease. Dr Aguer is also interested in the effect of Persistent Organic Pollutant (POPs) on mitochondrial function and insulin sensitivity in skeletal muscle and the possible communication between adipose tissue and muscle that may explain the metabolic defects resulting from exposure to pollutants .
