Daboval Thierry

Biography

Dr. Thierry Daboval received his medical degree in 1992 at the University of Sherbrooke in Quebec. He completed a neonatology perinatology fellowship in 1997 at the University of Montreal. In 2013, he completed his Master’s degree in health science. Dr. Daboval started his career at the Hospital of Rouyn-Noranda in Abitibi-Témiscamingue and then moved to the Centre Hospitalier Universitaire de Sherbrooke (CHUS). Since 2006, he has been practicing at the Children’s Hospital of Eastern Ontario (CHEO). He is a clinical investigator at the CHEO and Ottawa Hospital Research Institute and an academic neonatologist practicing in the NICUs at both CHEO and The Ottawa Hospital – General Campus. Since his career started, he has been the medical director of the neonatal follow-up clinics in each of the hospitals he has practiced. In 2016, he took over the role of Site Chief for CHEO NICU.  He is particularly interested in research regarding shared decision-making and parents’ participation in difficult ethically sensitive decisions and also in family centered care, finding best innovative clinical approaches for health care providers from different professional field to work toward facilitating parents involvement in the care of their newborn admitted in the NICU. Dr. Daboval is also interested in finding the best strategies for teaching neonatal ethics and communication and developed a simulation program called Scenario Oriented Learning in Ethics. More recently he is investigating a new marker or the metabolic acidosis at birth to better screen newborns at risk of hypoxic-ischemic encephalopathy.
