Denis Prud’homme, MD, MSc

Biography
Dr. Denis Prud’homme is Rector and Vice-Chancellor of the Université de Moncton. He holds bachelor’s and master’s degrees in kinesiology and a doctorate in medicine. Dr. Prud’homme was a professor and clinician at Université Laval from 1988 to 2001.
In 2002, he became Dean of the Faculty of Health Sciences at the University of Ottawa and clinician at the Outaouais Sports Medicine Clinic. In 2013, he was appointed Scientific Director of the Institut du Savoir Montfort.
In 2019, he assumes the position of interim CEO and academic vice-president of Hôpital Montfort. On the medical front, he has practiced sports medicine and was chief medical officer for the Canadian medical team at the Jeux de la Francophonie in Paris, as well as a member of medical teams for several university and Canadian sports teams.
His research focuses on the effects of physical activity, nutrition and medication on people with problems such as obesity, metabolic syndrome, diabetes and/or mental health problems. More recently, he has been studying the impact of language barriers on the quality and safety of care in official language minority communities.
In addition to his role as Rector and Vice-Chancellor, Dr. Prud’homme is currently a member of the Governance Committee of Universities Canada, Treasurer of the Association des collèges et universités de la francophonie canadienne, Vice-President of the Association of Atlantic Universities, Chairman of the Atlantic University Sport Committee and a member of the Board of Directors of University Sports Canada.
