Biography

Dr. Jean A. Roy holds a doctorate in medicine from the University of Ottawa as well as a specialist certificate in family medicine from the University of Montreal. Before pursuing medical studies, he completed a bachelor’s degree in philosophy at the Dominican University College in Ottawa. Dr. Roy is currently an Assistant Professor in the Department of Family Medicine at the University of Ottawa. He has at heart the training of new French-speaking doctors and has occupied in turn, at the Faculty of Medicine, the role of Vice-Dean of Francophone Affairs, Director of the Center for Pedagogical Health Support for the Francophonie (CAPSAF) and now Director of the Medicine, Ethics and Humanities program. Also, at the Faculty of Medicine, he is at the origin of several international collaborations, in particular with the University of Abomey-Calavi of Benin in Africa, the Mérieux Foundation in France, the Paris-Descartes University in Paris and the University of Lyon in France and the Jiao-Tong University in Shanghai.

Dr. Roy is interested in the design and evaluation of online self-learning modules in the context of medical education as well as the development of humanities skills by medical students to better serve populations.
