Marguerite Soulière, PhD

Biography

Marguerite Soulière has a doctoral degree in anthropology from the Université de Montréal. She is currently an assistant professor at the School of Social Work, Faculty of Social Sciences, University of Ottawa. The goal of her research is to develop a critical and interpretive analytical framework and generate knowledge that addresses health/disease issues in all their diversity and complexity. The main theme of her work concerns life cycle events and can be broken down into three parts: 1) Birth: The overall experience (pre-per-post-natal). Risk: The arrival of a new child; entry into parenthood; maternity and paternity practices (transmission of knowledge, security, education, diet/breastfeeding). 2) Adolescence : normalization and depathologizatoin; risk-taking; intimate and social relationships between girls, boys and boys-girls (of diverse origins and physical/social condition). Social parenting. Transmitting intra-generational interest). 3) Menopause and aging: Sociocultural construct of menopause and aging. Changes in practice and discourse in different times and different places.
