Biography

Maria is an assistant professor of communication at the University of Ottawa. Her research program mobilizes her expertise in interpersonal and organizational communication, qualitative research methods, and partnership research to support the delivery of healthcare services and contribute to the training of healthcare professionals. Her work focuses on three research axes linked to three contemporary challenges in the Canadian healthcare field: 1) supporting the digital transformation of healthcare organizations, 2) improving access and quality of services for Aboriginal communities, and 3) strengthening citizen mobilization around issues of care for the elderly and support for family caregivers.

Research interests

Her current research projects involve telemedicine, patient-caregiver communication in autism, models of care to better meet the needs of patients in Nunavut, and the experience of immigrant caregivers.
