Biography
Dr. Sydney Morin obtained her Doctorate in Pharmacy (research profile) from Université Laval. She then completed a pharmacy residency as part of the joint residency program at the Ottawa Hospital and the Montfort Hospital. Since then, she has worked as a clinical pharmacist at Hôpital Montfort, mainly in cardiology. With the title of Research Clinician, Dr. Morin will use her pharmacy practice to advance research in her areas of specialty, namely pharmacy and cardiology. On the teaching front, Dr. Morin is also a Clinical Assistant Professor at the School of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Medicine. In addition, Dr. Morin works as an associate clinician at the Université de Montréal and the University of Waterloo, where she precepts pharmacy students. In addition, she is a cardiology preceptor for pharmacy residents in the PGY-1 program at the Ottawa Hospital and Montfort Hospital. She is also a lecturer in the Faculty of Medicine at the University of Ottawa, teaching 3rd-year medical students. In recognition of her commitment to education, she was awarded the Prix d’excellence pour les cliniciens associés de l’Université de Montréal in 2022. If awarded the Clinician-Researcher designation, Dr. Morin will use her passion for education to promote a variety of Institut du Savoir Montfort initiatives.
As for her research experience, Dr. Morin received a research internship grant from the Fonds d’enseignement et de recherche de l’Université Laval in 2019 for her work on the research project entitled “Maladie de Parkinson : Investigation des protéinopathies alpha-synucléine, TH et TDP 43 dans le putamen humain”. As further examples, she also worked on the study “Drug causes possibly related to hospitalization of patients who presented with upper or lower digestive hemorrhage at the IUCPQ-UL” in 2018. On the subject of publications, she published “Adverse events associated with immune checkpoint inhibitors: Overview of Systematic Reviews (scientific journal Drugs, doi:10.1007/s40265-022-01707-1)” in 2022 as lead author. While conducting this study, she supervised two Doctor of Pharmacy students who assisted with the research project.
Currently, Dr. Morin is actively involved, with a grant from the Institut du Savoir Montfort, in the research project “Evaluations of an infectious disease education program for family medicine residents and the impact on antimicrobial knowledge”. This study aims to answer the following question:
Does an antimicrobial education program offered to family medicine residents objectively improve their knowledge of antimicrobial use? As a co-investigator, she is working on the development of the project in collaboration with other professionals, such as physicians, a stewardship pharmacist, and medical and pharmacy residents. During the study, she will teach the residents during their infectious diseases internship, write the manuscript, revise the online course, develop a questionnaire, and so on.
