Wendy Peterson, RN, PhD

Biography

Wendy Peterson has a doctoral degree in nursing from McMaster University and is currently an associate professor at the School of Nursing, Faculty of Health Sciences, University of Ottawa. The main objective of her research is to improve access to maternal-newborn health services, especially for marginalized women. Her research program aims to: call attention to disparities in access to perinatal services by marginalized women (during pregnancy and postpartum); examine the roles and responsibilities of registered nurses as members of interdisciplinary maternal care teams and take stock of steps currently being taken to reduce disparities in access to perinatal care; verify the effectiveness of intervention, access to care and quality of care; and, examine procedures for limiting inappropriate intervention during labour  and birth.
