Biography
A graduate of McGill University’s Department of Psychiatry, Dr. William Affleck is currently a CIHR postdoctoral fellow in the Men’s Health Research Unit. In collaboration with a number of community agencies in the Canadian Arctic, his research aims to understand a) why Inuit boys and young men are at such high risk of suicide; and b) what can be done to attract and retain them in mental health services. By tailoring treatment options to be more gender sensitive, this project will help address the mental health needs of Inuit boys and young men and reduce the suicide rate, which is otherwise the highest of any sub-population in the world.
